Turkish commercial vehicles manufacturer Karsan has unveiled its e-ATA HYDROGEN bus alongside its ambition to transform 10% of Turkish public transport in hydrogen powered vehicles.
At an event celebrating the opening of the Luxembourg Hydrogen Valley (LuxHyVal), Karsan introduced its new model and reiterated its commitment to environmentally friendly transport solutions.
Karsan has previously collaborated with private electric bus operator Sales Lentz to bring Karsan electric buses to the Luxembourg.
Karsan CEO Okan Baş said: “LuxHyVal aims to promote green hydrogen initiatives across the entire value chain, from local production to usage, including storage and distribution and to integrate with existing or planned infrastructures.
“As Karsan, we are delighted to be a partner in the use of environmentally friendly hydrogen in the mobility sector.”
Karsan also specialises in autonomous buses, partnering with Michigan State University to bring a full-size driverless bus (the e-Atak) to Finland, November 2023.
Operated by Finnish company Remoted, the Autonomous e-Atak is equipped with Level 4 autonomous technology, can travel at a speed of 40 km/h in all weather conditions and is able to move autonomously on a planned route.
Speaking about the future of Karsan vehicles , Okan Baş added: “Hydrogen fueled vehicles are seen as a significant advantage in the fight against global warming and climate change, and the European Union, in particular, offers substantial policies and support to encourage the adoption of zero-emission vehicles.
“With our e-ATAK model in Luxembourg, we closed the year with a share of 38% of the electric bus market.
“While we continue to contribute to public transport in line with our zero emission targets, we are also taking important steps in hydrogen technology.
“We aim to be a pioneer in this transformation with our vehicles like the e-ATA HYDROGEN, which boasts the best features in its class.”
