Plans to merge New Jersey’s three toll roads under one government superagency –which have been mooted since the 1970s – may be revived.
In 2003 the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway were merged, but the Atlantic City Expressway was not eligible to join because its owner, the South Jersey Transport Authority was also an operator of the Atlantic City International Airport.
However last year the airport was taken over by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, cutting out the SJTA, so the merger could be back on.
