Tanker operator Abbey Logistics has started a trial of Volvo’s six-by-two LNG powered FM tractor.
The Volvo G13C engine uses approximately 90-95 per cent liquified natural gas and 5-10 per cent diesel to ignite it. It is expected to provide the same fuel efficiency and performance as diesel but with a 20 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions and lower fuel costs. The operating range is comparable to diesel making suitable for long haul transport.
Abbey fleet engineer David Batty said the trial has the potential to be a pivotal moment for both the company and the wider industry.
