Lime, a shared micromobility company, has sponsored the purchase of three adapted bikes for Wheels for Wellbeing, a disabled cycling charity, as part of its ongoing accessibility goals.
The three vehicles, which include two electric tricycles (e-trikes) and a conventional recumbent tricycle, will be used by the charity to support adapted and accessible cycling training sessions in South London this summer.
The sessions can be booked online and will be run by qualified professionals and volunteers to encourage the use of adapted cycling vehicles.
E-trikes are designed to stabilise balancing for those who struggle to use traditional bicycles. The donated vehicles will include a digital handlebar display for speed and movement control.
The recumbent tricycles use a backrest to offer further support and are built to help riders who experience weakness and fatigue. All three vehicles will use the Lime branding.
Isabelle Clement, director of Wheels for Wellbeing, said: “Our mission is to ensure that anyone can access the physical, emotional, practical and social benefits of cycling through our cycling sessions.
“We’re extremely grateful to Lime for helping us make this mission a reality – with more adapted vehicles available for our training sessions we can provide even more people the opportunity to stay fit and healthy through exercise, having a positive impact on both physical and mental wellbeing.”
Lime and Wheels for Wellbeing are already collaborating on accessibility, with the charity sitting on Lime’s Disability Advisory Board. The board provides feedback on how to make Lime’s services more inclusive.
The donation is part of Lime’s mission to empower people of all abilities to use sustainable transport options.
