A new journey planning app that advocates more walking and cycling has been launched in Aberdeen to help people price and plan journeys.
The GoAbz app features information on journey times and costs by vehicle as well as providing alternative suggestions such as cycling, walking and public transport.
The app has been developed by Aberdeen City Council with partners including Aberdeenshire Council, Nestrans, Robert Gordon University, University of Aberdeen, and Aberdeen Harbour Board.
Two beta versions of the app were initially developed, with local engagement sessions carried out enabling users to assist on the design, functionality, look and feel of the app. Four research workshops, aimed at drivers, students, over 60s and cyclists, were then held in March before a final version was launched.
Aberdeen City Council transport spokesperson, councillor Sandra Macdonald, said: “The GoAbz app is an innovative way to help plan your journey around Aberdeen with useful information on journey times and costs.
“It also provides information on alternatives to driving including cycling, walking and using public transport which we’d encourage people to use where they can and particularly for short journeys.”
According to the council, additional developments will enhance the planner over the coming months.
Funding for the app came in part from the European Union Civitas Portis project, which aims to make a positive impact on five European port cities by creating sustainable urban mobility solutions between city centres and ports.
