Active Travel England (ATE) has opened its office in York, which is intended to create a ‘national hub of excellence’ across areas such as street design, planning, engagement and data to support English councils to implement active travel measures.
Some of those in attendance at the launch included Jesse Norman, minister of state in the Department for Transport (DfT), as well as representatives from the NHS, Sustrans, ADEPT, Cycling UK, The Bikeability Trust, Living Streets and National Highway.
The opening ceremony saw all of the centre’s approximately 50 staff come together for the first time.
A spokesperson from ATE said: “We look forward to working with local authorities nationwide to enable more trips in towns and cities to be walked, wheeled or cycled.”
