The mayor’s proposed plans are designed to unlock the potential of Oxford Street and deliver a world-class, accessible, clean, pedestrianised avenue.

Should the street be pedestrianised, the London mayor hopes that Oxford Street can emulate Times Square in New York and the Champs-Élysées in Paris and become a new centre for retail trade in Europe.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “Oxford Street was once the jewel in the crown of Britain’s retail sector, but there’s no doubt that it has suffered hugely over the last decade.
“Urgent action is needed to give the nation’s most famous high street a new lease of life.”
