An active travel manager has been appointed to lead Shropshire Council’s work to enable and encourage people to walk and cycle for everyday short journeys.
Rose Dovey is currently strategy and programme manager for Hertfordshire County Council and is experienced in the development of Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) and associated active travel measures for Transport for London (TfL) and several other councils.
She will take up her new role in Shropshire in mid-May 2021.
In her new role, Dovey will co-ordinate the development and delivery of active travel projects with partners, including cycling and walking infrastructure projects and cycle parking.
She will also develop the council’s LCWIP and prepare an active travel strategy for the council, working across a number of key service areas.
Steve Brown, Shropshire Council’s head of transport and environment, said: “I’m delighted that we have appointed Rose to manage, lead and co-ordinate our active travel agenda.
“This is a really important appointment for the council and we we’re confident that Rose is the right person to take on this new role.
“Active travel simply means making journeys by physically-active means – such as walking, cycling, or scooting.
“It’s a key priority for the council as, by encouraging and enabling active travel, we will improve health, create safer communities and reduce environmental impacts – so everyone will benefit.”
Dovey has led on the development and implementation of transportation and urban growth strategies and is experienced at securing internal and external funding for active travel projects.
She said: “I’m excited to be joining Shropshire Council in the role of active travel manager.
“I look forward to working with the community to enable cycling and walking to be a safe, normal and enjoyable way to travel for everyday journeys.”
