A new sustainable travel hub has opened at the University of Derby’s Kedleston Road campus, providing students and staff with enhanced green transport options.
Developed in partnership with Derby City Council, the facility is the first of its kind in the city and is designed to grow in line with Derby’s expanding sustainable transport network.
It offers 11 electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints, real-time travel information screens, and secure cycle parking for 70 bicycles.
Councillor Carmel Swan, cabinet member for climate change, transport and sustainability, Derby City Council, said: “We’ve made great progress expanding sustainable transport in Derby, and it’s vital that these schemes are accessible to students.
“Providing alternative transport options supports our climate ambitions and enhances Derby’s attractiveness as a university city.”
Stephen Dudderidge, COO at the University of Derby, added: “We understand the importance of reducing our carbon footprint and putting sustainability at the heart of our growth and development plans. This new travel hub reinforces that commitment.”
Funded by £800,000 from the UK government’s Future Transport Zones Fund, the hub officially opened on 14 March ahead of the university’s Go Green Week, an annual event promoting sustainable choices.
Achievements and innovations in urban mobility hubs will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
