Ahead of this month’s CiTTi Awards 2024 ceremony, City Transport & Traffic Innovation Magazine is profiling each of this year’s finalists – continuing with those shortlisted for The Road Safety Award!
This award recognises outstanding achievements in the field of traffic management, celebrating initiatives that demonstrate excellence in optimising traffic flow, ensuring road safety, and minimising environmental impacts within urban environments.
Entries highlighted cutting-edge technologies, the implementation of innovative traffic management strategies, and the execution of projects that have made a tangible difference in the way cities manage vehicular, pedestrian, and cyclist traffic.
This year’s finalists are:
Citisense
Citisense is nominated for the Smart Transport Hub (STH), an advanced AI-driven solution transforming urban mobility through real-time data analytics. Featuring the innovative VECC sensor and a user-friendly analytical dashboard, it accurately monitors road users—including cyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles—24/7, with a minimum accuracy of 94%. This data enables smarter travel planning, traffic management, and predictive maintenance, fostering safer, more efficient, and sustainable urban transport systems. With successful installations in Hammersmith & Fulham, Kent, Enfield, and Newham, the STH has demonstrated measurable benefits, including reduced congestion, enhanced road safety, and increased active travel. It’s easy installation and ability to turn raw data into actionable insights empowers local authorities to optimise transport systems effectively.London Borough of Camden
London Borough of Camden is nominated for the significant strides it made in transforming transport and mobility through its Camden Transport Strategy (CTS) and three-year Delivery Plan for 2022–2025. Developed collaboratively with council departments, communities, and businesses, the strategy focuses on sustainable travel, improved air quality, and cutting emissions. Since 2019, Camden has trebled segregated cycleways, implemented over 30 traffic filters, expanded “Healthy School Streets,” and completed the £40m West End Project, transforming Tottenham Court Road into a bus and cycle-friendly corridor with award-winning public spaces. These efforts have led to a 15% reduction in motor traffic since 2019, a doubling of cycle mode share to nearly 7%, and a reduction in road transport CO2 emissions by 15% and NOx by 50% since 2013. Public transport and green mobility initiatives, including e-scooter hubs and EV charging points, have also flourished.
