Ahead of this month’s CiTTi Awards 2024 ceremony, City Transport & Traffic Innovation Magazine is profiling each of this year’s finalists – continuing with those shortlisted for The Micromobility Award!
This award recognises outstanding contributions to the expansion and improvement of micromobility options in urban areas.
Entries had to highlight their impact on urban mobility, including increased accessibility, reduction in traffic congestion, and environmental benefits with special attention given to safety, user experience, and integration with existing urban transport networks.
What’s more, submissions included innovative design, implementation, and management of micromobility services such as e-scooters, bicycles, and e-bikes.
This year’s finalists are:
Falco UK and Solarcycle UK
Falco UK and Solarcycle UK are nominated for the launch of the first 100% renewable solar e-bike charging stations within Falco’s cycle shelters, debuting at NHS Wales Ystradgynlais Community Hospital. This partnership provides quick-install, off-grid solar charging for e-bikes, supporting sustainable transport and environmental goals. Solarcycle’s innovative ‘solar-in-a-box’ solution offers easy, cost-effective green energy.Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust
Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is nominated for its Green Travel Plan to reduce travel-related carbon emissions, supporting NHS England’s net zero goals. Staff are encouraged to adopt cleaner transport, with e-bike and e-cargo bike initiatives established in 2021 for community teams like @home. The scheme, now permanent, reduces emissions, improves staff health, enhances road safety, and inspires healthier lifestyle models for patients. Generously funded by Guy’s & St Thomas’ Charity and Impact on Urban Health, the Trust is set to expand this sustainable transport initiative further across London sites.HITRANS
HITRANS is nominated for its HI Bike scheme. Launched in 2021, HI Bike is Scotland’s only large-scale public sector e-bike system, available 24/7 in Inverness and Fort William. After the original concessionaire’s market exit, HITRANS took over all operations, handling customer service, maintenance, and management in-house. Despite recent vandalism challenges, public support underscores HI Bike’s value in the Highlands.London Borough of Camden & ITP
London Borough of Camden & ITP is nominated for the Camden Micromobility Parking Hub. The hub offers a network of 207 dedicated parking spaces for bikes and e-scooters, supporting over 350,000 trips monthly. By addressing footway parking issues and ensuring most residents are within a 2-minute walk of a hub, Camden’s initiative has grown shared micromobility sustainably to around 3,000 vehicles. The borough aims for its successful public-private collaboration to be a model for regulated micromobility in London.North Northamptonshire Council & Voi Technology
North Northamptonshire Council & Voi Technology are nominated for the North Northamptonshire e-scooter trial, with 1,750 shared e-scooters, which reduces congestion, improves accessibility, and advances decarbonisation. Despite high car dependency and low active transport levels in the area, the trial has seen over 1.73 million rides and significant CO2 savings, while boosting High Street spending by £7.57m. Managed by a joint Project Steering Group, the trial incorporates strict regulations, parking incentives, and user education, including the UK’s first end-of-ride photo verification and a three-strikes ban for rule-breakers.
