Ahead of this month’s CiTTi Awards 2024 ceremony, City Transport & Traffic Innovation Magazine is profiling each of this year’s finalists – continuing with those shortlisted for The Smart Parking Award!
This award recognises celebrates advanced and user-centric parking schemes that optimise urban space utilisation.
Entries highlighted innovative technologies and systems, including IoT, AI, and payment methods, that enhance efficiency and convenience for on-street and off-street parking.
What’s more, successful submissions demonstrated creative thinking in addressing parking challenges, improving user experience, and contributing to the reduction of traffic congestion and emissions in urban environments.
This year’s finalists are:
APCOA
APCOA is nominated for the launch of its ScanPay technology at five Great Western Railway sites, allowing customers to scan a QR code with their smartphone camera to access parking tariff options and make payments via card or Apple/Google Pay. Designed to simplify the parking experience, ScanPay eliminates the need for registration, providing a fast, frictionless, and accessible payment option. Within just 12 months, the technology was deployed at over 550 sites, facilitating more than 1,000,000 annual transactions in the rail sector alone. By removing the need for printed tickets and machine maintenance visits, ScanPay also generates sustainable savings in paper and fuel costs. Its signage is positioned for greater accessibility, benefiting users with disabilities who may struggle with traditional payment machines.Q-Park UK
Q-Park UK is nominated for its PaSS system, combining ANPR and QR codes for seamless, ticketless access. Customers register their number plate, link it to a bank account, and use a QR code for pedestrian access. The cloud-based system simplifies parking by connecting services and offering adaptive solutions for businesses. Q-Park also improved its online pre-booking, allowing customers to book, input their number plate, and enter/exit without a ticket. Additional charges apply for overstays. This has boosted customer satisfaction, with a 9/10 rating for repeat bookings, making the process more efficient and convenient.
