Ahead of this month’s CiTTi Awards 2024 ceremony, City Transport & Traffic Innovation Magazine is profiling each of this year’s finalists – continuing with those shortlisted for The Ticketing and Payments Award!
This award celebrates groundbreaking innovations in ticketing and payment systems for urban mobility. Criteria include the ease of use, accessibility, integration across multiple transport modes, and the adoption of new technologies such as mobile apps, contactless payments and smart cards.
Submissions into this brand-new category had to demonstrate how these innovations enhance the user experience, promote the use of public transport and contribute to the efficiency and sustainability of urban mobility systems.
This year’s finalists are:
APCOA
Full service parking management company APCOA is nominated for the successful rollout of its ScanPay technology. Initially trialled across five Great Western Railway sites in October 2022, the QR code-based payment system has since expanded to more than 550 sites, handling more than 1,000,000 annual transactions. With a user-friendly, frictionless payment process that enhances accessibility and reduces environmental impact, ScanPay is helping APCOA lead the way in sustainable, digital parking solutions.Q-Park UK
Parking operator Q-Park is nominated for its PaSS (Parking as a Smart Service) system. By combining ANPR technology with digital payment solutions and a QR code system, PaSS offers seamless, ticketless parking experiences. The cloud-based solution allows customers to enter and exit parking facilities using their number plate, with payments automatically processed. PaSS integrates with various payment and parking apps, enhancing customer access and convenience. Supporting Q-Park’s vision for mobility hubs, PaSS also facilitates shared mobility, EV charging and last-mile delivery, setting new standards in urban mobility and sustainability.Transport for Wales with Unicard, iBlocks, Vix Technologies & Cybersource
Transport for Wales (TfW) and partners are nominated for pioneering the UK’s first EMV account-based ticketing solution outside London. Designed to manage more than 30 million journeys annually by 2025, this contactless system allows passengers to use bank cards or mobile wallets for seamless, tap-on-tap-off rail travel. Integrated with TfW’s mobile app and website, it’s a flexible, scalable solution that ensures future adaptability across various modes of transport, enhancing convenience and accessibility for passengers.
