This month, the BMW Group has announced that it has acquired the largest provider of mobile parking services in North America. BMW’s corporate strategy retains a focus on the technology of the future and in the investment of future technologies. This acquisition places the BMW Group at the forefront of digital parking solutions as the company is able to better address one of the essential elements of urban mobility: parking solutions.
Peter Schwarzenbauer, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for MINI, Rolls-Royce, BMW Motorrad, customer engagement and digital business innovation BMW Group said: “Up to 30 percent of city traffic is caused by people looking for parking spaces. The acquisition of Parkmobile, LCC makes us the leading international provider of digital parking solutions and means we can better address the pain point of parking by scaling our offering for customers worldwide.”
The CEO of Parkmobile, LLC, Jon Ziglar, also commented, noting that “The BMW Group has always been on the forefront of disruptive mobility technology. Currently, ParkMobile offers digital parking solutions in over 1,000 cities in Europe and North America, reaching more than 22 million customers. “We are proud of what Parkmobile has already achieved and look forward to working with our new colleagues to scale the business even further,” adds Bernhard Blättel, head of mobility services at the BMW Group.
The BMW Group will work towards improving urban mobility by contributing to creating innovative parking solutions which will help to reduce traffic from users looking for parking. This, in turn, will reduce congestion by minimising traffic and correspondingly, lower emissions within cities.
