Fleet solutions provider 21st Century, a division of Journeo, is connecting Abellio’s entire London fleet to its IoT gateway, enabling them to access its cloud-based video management software and services.
By connecting its buses, over 4G, to the transit module in the Journeo Portal, Abellio will increase the scope, power and functionality of its on-board data. The operator will have real time access to CCTV footage, reducing the time taken to gather evidence to just hours.
The solution will also enable Abellio to monitor vehicle diagnostic information to inform them of issues that might require attention, and this extends to the battery state of EVs that are becoming an increasingly important part of their fleet.
Abellio’s 852 buses and 77 ancillary vehicles on 53 London routes will now been show on the platform, providing information, data and images for the right people, at the right time.
Jon Eardley, engineering director of Abellio London bus, said: “Journeo’s innovative technology, software and services have been integrated into our business systems for a number of years, helping us to improve safety and efficiency at the same time as enhancing the passenger travel experience.
“The addition of the Journeo Edge gateway and advanced modules unlocks further system integration potential and will serve as a fantastic platform for future IoT technologies to keep our fleet connected”.
Abellio has worked with 21st Century for several years and the partnership added this is the first fleet-wide adoption of cloud-based video management services in London.
Mark Johnson, director of fleet systems at 21st Century, added: “We are delighted to be working as technology partners with Abellio and delivering the first fleet-wide bus deployment in London of cloud-based video management and software services.
“A growing number of operators are adopting our solutions to improve performance and drive down costs where we are able to combine end-to-end security and scalable architecture with intuitive software and responsive support services”.
