A dozen companies from across Germany have received funding notices for the purchase of climate-friendly commercial vehicles in Berlin.
The 12 organisations were selected from more than 450 applications submitted under the German government’s Directive on the Promotion of Alternative, Climate-Friendly Commercial Vehicles and Infrastructure (KsNI).
According to the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV), a total of 320 projects worth around €200m (£170m) were approved.
German federal minister Dr Volker Wissing said: “With our funding, we are supporting companies in taking responsibility for climate protection and reducing emissions in road freight transport.
“The number of applications proves the great interest of the industry in converting its fleets to clean drives. I am pleased that we can continue this success story with the second call for funding and an additional call for special vehicles and infrastructure. Both will be released later this month.”
The projects submitted comprise around 2,000 battery, fuel-cell and hybrid-electric commercial vehicles, as well as 153 applications for associated operational charging infrastructure.
BMDV is providing a total of around €1.6bn (£1.36bn) by 2024 to promote the purchase of climate-friendly commercial vehicles.
In addition, around €7bn (£5.96bn) will be available by 2025 for the construction – or expansion – of refuelling and charging infrastructure for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
The KsNI funding programme is coordinated by NOW and applications are approved by the Federal Office for Goods Transport.
The second call for funding for commercial vehicles and associated operational refuelling and charging infrastructure, as well as an additional special call for special vehicles and infrastructure, will be published on 15 June 2022.
Applications will be submitted from 29 June 2022.
