Transport for London has warned against unofficial web sites offering to pay London congestion charges on users’ behalf.
These websites are not affiliated with TfL, and are known to charge users a premium of up to £6 per payment, accept payment when no charge is due, and in some cases fail to make the payment, resulting in drivers receiving a Penalty Charge Notice.
The Advertising Standards Agency upheld three complaints relating to one site misrepresenting a link with TfL and not making clear the fees it levied.
The unofficial websites claim their inflated prices cover extra services such as email confirmation and a dedicated phone helpline. However TfL offers these services for free.
