Einride, a freight mobility technology company, has announced its launch in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg – or Benelux – alongside brewing company AB InBev.
The partnership between the two is hoped to reduced 500 tonnes of carbon emissions annually as InBev deploys Einride’s fleet of electric and connected trucks.
“Benelux is the beating heart of Europe and the place to drive change across the European Union,” said Robert Falck, CEO and founder of Einride.
“In the last ten years, the union has cut greenhouse gas emissions in every sector but transport, which has only increased, with road freight transport remaining by far the biggest emitter.
“It’s high time to take action in order to achieve the target of halving emissions by 2030.
“With our industry leading technology that has been electric from the start we look forward to contributing to substantial emission reductions so that Europe can take the lead in the global race to net zero.”
The pair expect to start deploying the trucks in early 2023 in Belgium, with the first phase involving the activation of Einride’s ‘freight ecosystem’, including its freight mobility platform, six connected trucks and the associated charging infrastructure.
The trucks will be deployed in the Leuven and Brussels areas to support InBev’s ambition to achieve net zero emissions throughout its supply chain by 2040.
“We only invest in non-diesel transport and are going for zero in our emissions,” said Philippe Seminck, logistics director Benelux and France, AB InBev.
“As we are starting the broad deployment of electric vehicles for city deliveries next year, the partnership with Einride for electric heavy duty transportation on the middle mile is the next step in our green logistics strategy.
“If the environment we operate in becomes greener, the ingredients for our beer will benefit.”
Einride claims that, by building grids that use its ecosystem of its smart platform Einride Saga, electric and autonomous fleets, charging infrastructure and connectivity networks, it can support organisations to deliver resilient and cost-effective shipping systems.
