E-scooter operator Wind Mobility has announced plans to introduce £25 coupons for NHS key workers and frontline social care staff to enable them to rent its e-scooters in Nottingham.
Wind’s ‘Helping Hands’ programme will be rolled out across the Nottingham trial area. The micromobility company has asked local NHS staff to create a Wind user account by downloading the smartphone app.
An e-mail application from a valid NHS e-mail address is then required to be sent to the Wind customer service centre.
The application should contain the mobile number associated to the Wind account, a photocopy of a work ID badge or written confirmation of their key worker status from their place of work.
Once verified, Wind will credit the user’s account with a £25 bonus balance. The balance can then be used toward renting one of the 450 pay-per-minute e-scooters that Wind has deployed on the streets of Nottingham as part of its e-scooter trial programme with Nottingham City Council.
Lukasz Rybak, Nottingham city manager at Wind, Mobility, said: “Not only healthcare workers and hospital staff but key workers all across the city still need to commute to work every day, deliver food and medicines, and provide home care to the most vulnerable.
“We want to offer a mode of transport that allows for social distancing, ensures safe journeys, and is tailored to the needs of our everyday heroes.”
The credit can also be put towards discounted monthly subscriptions offered to key workers since the trial began. Furthermore, key workers can apply for a private e-scooter lease for £30 per month.
The offer will be in place until the end of May and Wind said there was a possibility to further extend the offer should lockdown restrictions remain in place.
