British micromobility provider Beryl will extend its free-ride initiative in Norwich to allow students and key workers to continue travelling during lockdown.
The extension, in partnership with Norfolk County Council, will offer 30 minutes free riding on Beryl pedal bikes and 15 minutes on e-bikes between 07:30-09:30 and 15:00-16:30.
The free-ride initiative was launched by Beryl in mid-September. It said the extension aims to inspire people across the city to choose a sustainable transport mode, easing the burden on public transport and aiding a green recovery.
Philip Ellis, Beryl CEO, said: “We want to do everything we can to make cycling more accessible to everyone across the city and are delighted that the free ride offer has been extended. Riders in Norwich have clocked up almost 1,000 trips by Beryl pedal and e-bikes already, with up to 4,000 30-minute free rides available.”
Funding for the free-ride initiative comes through the UK Department for Transport’s Travel Demand Management Fund as part of the government’s Covid-19 measures.
