Bikemap, a Vienna-based startup that offers free worldwide cycling maps and navigation via smartphone apps, has announced a new in-app feature that enables users to report obstacles, hazards and more directly into the digital map service.
Via the app, cyclists can add so-called points of interests and report construction sites, fallen trees, potholes, barriers, splinters and anything else relevant while cycling in cities or rural and wild areas.
According to Bikemap, while real-time community updates have been used as part of in-car navigation apps for many years, the feature is a first in the cycling segment, providing cyclists around the world with unique community insights on their next trip.
So far, more than three million users of Bikemap have generated over 5.7 million routes in over 100 countries.
