Bike locker operator Brompton Bike Hire has announced that it will be launching three new docks in Cardiff city centre on 12 October.
The three new docks will be situated by Cardiff Central Station, located just outside the station, Cathays Station, close to Cardiff University and also Whitchurch Station.
The idea behind the new docks is to enhance the city’s cycling offering for commuters, students and visitors, offering the option for users to fold up the bikes and carry them around the city.
Brompton Bike Hire uses a pay-as-you-go process, with the aim of making its services more accessible, with bike hire for a whole day costing £5, with full insurance reportedly included.
The bikes are available for hire via the Brompton Bike app, with the option of hiring a locker or to keep the bikes for up to a day, week, or longer, depending on the user’s requirements.
Student offers available via the app include a subscription worth £30 per month on a fixed term for the academic year, or £45 on a rolling monthly basis.
Julian Scriven, managing director of Brompton Bike Hire, said: ‘’The benefits of cycling are clear to see and we’re so pleased to bring Brompton Bike Hire to the thriving city of Cardiff, where residents, visitors and students can experience the benefits of riding our bikes as an alternative and affordable way of getting around.
“Not only is cycling great for wellbeing, it also reduces carbon emissions and supports Cardiff’s aims in decreasing traffic congestion and reducing pollution levels.”
Brompton claims it is happy to support Cardiff Council and the Welsh government on the Clean Air project, with the local authority undertaking a study into air quality with the aim of reducing pollution levels to the legal limit outlined in European legislation.
