Five new e-bike hire points have been installed across Falkirk in Scotland following investment from SP Energy Networks’ green economy fund, Energy Saving Trust and Falkirk Council.
Riders will be able to hire Forth Bike e-bikes at new points at Falkirk community hospital, Callander Park in Falkirk, Zetland Park in Grangemouth, on Duke Street in Denny and on Union Street in Bo’ness.
This extends the network of e-bike hire hubs in the region to 10, with existing locations at the Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel, among others.
Furthermore, Falkirk residents can also connect to six Forth Bike hubs throughout Stirling and Clackmannanshire for commuting or leisure activities across the Forth Valley.
Shirley Paterson, from environmental charity Forth Environment Link, which manages the 144 e-bike scheme, said: “We have already seen unprecedented use of Forth Bike within Falkirk during 2020, with people finding the e-bikes a great way to explore their local neighbourhoods, keep their spirits up and stay fit.
“By doubling the number of charging stations people will hopefully find it even easier to use the bikes for commuting and as restrictions ease, to stay connected with family and friends.”
NHS Forth Valley also welcomed the expansion and praised Forth Bike’s positive impact on the region’s health.
Some 87 local key workers have taken advantage of free Forth Bike membership so far, with 13 more free memberships still available.
NHS Forth Valley health promotion officer Aileen Schofield said: “The scheme has proved extremely popular since being launched at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in 2019, so the arrival of additional bikes at Falkirk Community Hospital is warmly welcomed.
“The electric bikes are not only a greener option for commuting, they’re also a great way to boost your mental and physical health.
