The Cycle Rail Working Group, which includes stakeholders from the rail industry and sustainable transport groups, has asked for public feedback on how opportunities can improve for the combination of cycling and rail journeys.
The group has said it wants to hear the experiences of the public through its online survey to ensure the guidance it is looking to develop reflects modern requirements.
Existing guidance was delivered in 2016, meaning it does not account for the global pandemic and the cost of living crisis, as well as repeated calls for improved sustainability options in travel.
Active travel charity Sustrans’ 2021 Walking and Cycling Index found that 64% of people across the UK want cycling infrastructure with improved connections to public transport, such as secure cycle parking at train stations.
Sustrans is part of the Cycle Rail Working Group.
What’s more, the group claims that giving people the choice to combine active and sustainable travel will mean healthier and emission-free options for local journeys to stations, and encourage low carbon and high-speed transport over longer distances, especially for commuters.
The survey is now live and will close at 9am on 9 January 2023.
