FedEx Express has announced plans to deploy a fleet of eight e-cargo bikes for last-mile delivery services in London.
Supplied by Wiltshire-based Iceni Cycles, the electric pedal assist trikes will be used by FedEx couriers for door-to-door pickups and deliveries in the UK capital city’s zero-emission zones.
According to the company, by replacing some of its conventional delivery vehicles with the e-cargo bikes, it can also help to reduce road traffic in London by using cycle lanes.
Trevor Hoyle, senior vice president ground operations Europe, FedEx Express, said: “One bike alone can reduce around 6,700kg of CO2 per year, so now with more goods flowing into our cities than ever before, there’s never been a better time to introduce emission-free pickup and deliveries – all part of our Reduce, Replace, Revolutionise approach.”
