Certification company Bureau Veritas has launched a dedicated inspection and testing service for EV charging points in the UK.
Similar to fixed electrical installation, duty holders are required by law to ensure the safety of EV charging points. According to Bureau Veritas, there is a growing need for the new service with more than 31,000 EV connection points in the UK serving 305,000 registered EVs.
The company said it will offer a dedicated team to support clients with inspection and testing programmes to help ensure the electrical safety and compliance of EV charging points and allow for early identification of any faults that could threaten the safety and longevity of the charging points.
Michael Kenyon, electrical technical lead at Bureau Veritas, said: “Our expert electrical team has developed a dedicated periodic inspection and testing programme for EV charging points, covering all the essential checks that are required to maintain safety and compliance in line with relevant regulations.
“We also offer guidance on frequencies of formal periodic inspection and testing as well as support and guidance on robust daily checks for users in between formal inspection. All from a specialist, technical team with unrivalled understanding of the latest regulations.”
Bureau Veritas reported that, since March, 888 new EV connection points have been installed each month in the UK, with many installed outside, making them vulnerable to damage and environmental factors. It therefore recommends annual testing.
