Gloucestershire County Council has appointed EV chargepoint provider Connected Kerb to install and run a charging network across the region.
About one-third of carbon dioxide emissions in Gloucestershire come from transport, and private road vehicles contribute to 55% of this.
However, transitioning to EVs has the potential to reduce these numbers massively, making them key to the council’s sustainability ambitions.
With the upcoming 2030 ICE ban approaching, the local authority plans to install the network as soon as possible to help residents prepare for the change.
The project will reportedly prioritise access to chargers for the one third of locals who cannot access who off-street parking and EV charging, moving the county one step closer to its decarbonisation goals.
Gloucestershire County Council has begun collaboration with district and parish councils to find appropriate locations for the network and is bidding for government funding to accelerate roll-out.
Residents have being asked to offer their opinions on potential charging point locations to help the council understand demand and plan for infrastructural needs.
