Miami has been named the EV supercar capital of the world, with London taking second place ahead of major cities such as Berlin and Milan.
A study by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts looked at global EV sales over the last three years and Google search volume data from 152 countries and found that there are over 600,000 searches for electric supercars every month in Miami.
The data also named the world’s most searched all-electric and hybrid-electric supercars, with the four-door Tesla Model 3 saloon the most desired electric model with 1,852,356 global monthly searches.
The BMW i8 was the most searched for hybrid supercar with 828,154 searches per month, 400,000 more searches than the second place Tesla Roadster.
According to the report, electric car sales were up in July by 77% from the previous year, and 2020 sales are expected to hit 2.9m.
For the first time since 2015, Europe overtook China in the number of EVs sold, with 414,000 of the total number of sales in the first half of 2020 emanating from Europe. The study also highlighted that this was 57% up on the previous year despite the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
In total, the study analysed Google search volume data for 126 difference car makers and models, of which 74 were EVs, 72 were hybrids and 44 were supercar models.
