Two new EV chargers are now available for drivers in Stevenage town centre.
Operator Electric Blue will manage the chargers for Stevenage Borough Council, which are live and available to use in Swingate car park. The EV-link chargepoints were installed by project partner ElectrAssure.
The two fast chargers offer four sockets for EV charging, and are strategically located for shoppers and commuters.
According to Electric Blue, further chargers will be installed before March 2021, as part of the ongoing project, once locations are agreed upon. Full 24-hour support for using the chargers and app is available.
Lloyd Briscoe, executive member for the economy enterprise and transport, Stevenage Borough Council, said: “We know that residents are looking to invest in quieter, cleaner and lower-carbon modes of transport, so the installation of more EV charging points, combined with our flexible approach to new infrastructure ,has to be seen as a positive.
“Enabling more people to switch to clean electric vehicles is one of our considerations in our Future Town – Future Transport strategy for addressing the climate emergency and delivering a carbon neutral Stevenage by 2030.”
The new charge points will be on free vend initially, to welcome their active use in Stevenage.
To date, three out of 10 councils in Hertfordshire are using Electric Blue charge points.
