Global logistics firm Deutsche Post DHL Group and Ford Pro, a branch of the American automotive manufacturer specialising in commercial fleet vehicles, have announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to speed up the electrification of global last-mile delivery fleets.
The agreement will see Ford Pro provide Deutsche Post DHL Group with more than 2,000 electric vans to be used in throughout its global network by the end of 2023.
What’s more, Ford Pro’s electric vans are intended to both boost the existing fleets associated with the group’s two brands, Deutsche Post and DHL respectively, and reduce both companies’ operating costs and carbon emissions.
Hans Schep, general manager of Ford Pro Europe, said: “Ford Pro and Deutsche Post DHL Group share the vision of greater sustainability and a commitment to electrified solutions, and this agreement is a major step towards millions of deliveries being completed by electrified vehicles around the world.”
Both Ford Pro and DHL have made commitments to improving organisational sustainability through reduced greenhouse gas emissions, with Ford specifically working towards zero emissions for all vehicle sales, in addition to pursuing carbon neutrality across its European facilities by 2035.
Meanwhile, Deutsche Post DHL Group has committed to investing €7bn (£6bn) in improving the environmental credentials of its operations and reaching its net zero emissions goals. Another key environmental target is its plan to electrify the majority of its fleet for pick-ups and deliveries by 2030.
