Sustainable energy company Gridserve has secured multi-million-pound funding from Hitachi Capital to deliver a UK-wide network of over 100 EV charging forecourts by 2025.
The loan will facilitate projects including hybrid solar farms in Gloucestershire and Lincolnshire, and Gridserve’s first Electric Forecourt, located close to Braintree, Essex.
Due to open this summer, the solar-powered Electric Forecourt will provide ultra-fast charging for all types of EVs.
It will have space for 24 vehicles to charge simultaneously in 20-30 minutes at a rate of up to 35 kW from its superchargers.
According to Gridserve, many more sites are already under development.
It will reportedly generate zero-carbon solar energy to supply its Electric Forecourt network, in combination with large battery storage systems “to deal with the intermittent nature of solar power and meet the growing demand for sustainable energy”.
Robert Gordon, CEO of Hitachi Capital UK, said: “We now have a real opportunity, through flagship programmes like this, to create the infrastructure needed to fast-track electric vehicle adoption across the UK and meet the government’s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2050.”
In addition to this loan, Hitachi Capital and Gridserve, in conjunction with Hitachi Europe SIB, are working together on other sustainable energy focused projects including electrification of the UK bus network and the supply of EVs with charging included at Gridserve’s Electric Forecourts.
