New research from Samsara, an US fleet management company, suggests that half of UK businesses currently using fleets have sped up vehicle electrification to save on rising fuel costs.
The research, titled the State of Connected Operations Report, involved 1,500 operational leaders, 200 of which were from the UK.
It revealed that 84% of UK industrial, logistics and manufacturing businesses view climate action as a ‘high’ or ‘critical’ priority, with 61% increasing their sustainability measures this year.
Some 38% of firms have already implemented a sustainability agenda, with a further 59% planning to do so this year, according to the study.
“These findings are unequivocable,” said Philip van der Wilt, VP and general manager at Samsara, EMEA.
“The logistics and road haulage industry is committed to embracing environmental sustainability, which has been brought into sharp focus with skyrocketing fuel prices and customer pressures.
“We’re seeing a strong appetite to move to mixed fuel, combining compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric or complete EV adoption.
“Business leaders are turning words into action, putting investment in EVs and environmental sustainability as priorities for 2022.
“Organisations are setting concrete goals and investing in technology to deliver more sustainable operations.”
The trends identified in the UK mirror global shifts toward more sustainable practices in the industrial, manufacturing and logistics industries.
The report revealed that 81% of firms want to appoint climate-conscious leadership, 86% want to invest in green tech, 89% plan to develop environmental targets for their businesses and 87% intend to market their sustainability.
