Trafford Council has launched a scheme to improve electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure by installing 19 new electric vehicle (EV) charging bays.
The council has said that EV bays will go live across four sites this month, with three of these locations serving as hubs with multiple charging bays.
Some of the announced locations for hubs are Flixton Road, Thorley Lane and Brown Street, as well as two rapid charging bays at Longford Park. These, the council claims, are just the first of 100 planned throughout the borough.
Chris Morris, Trafford Council’s director of highways, transport and environment said: “It’s important we can provide an alternative to vehicles that produce pollutants breathed in by our residents.
“Our priorities are to address the climate crisis, as well as to improve people’s health.
“The aim of this roll-out is to create dependable, fair and even access to public EV charging across the borough.”
Trafford has been working with charging infrastructure provider Be.EV as part of its ambition to encourage more drivers to swap to EVs.
According to Be.EV, the pair have been closely collaborating with the EV team at Trafford Council to select and prioritise locations of the new chargers based on need.
