Jersey Electricity has installed two new electric vehicle (EV) charging points on The Parade in St Helier.
The 7kW chargepoints are the first communal charging points not to be located in car parks on the island, in an effort to improve access for residents who don’t have access to home charging systems.
The new chargers take the total number of EV charging points to 111 across 36 locations across the island county.
Jersey Electricity’s director of commercial services, Peter Cadiou, said: “We saw the challenges facing electric vehicle drivers without off-street parking.
“By bringing charging facilities into high density areas we are directly supporting these electric vehicle drivers, giving them charging options closer to their homes.
“This is the first neighbourhood charging facility and we aim to introduce more, in partnership with the parish of St Helier and others, to provide electric vehicle drivers with greater choice of where to charge their vehicles.”
Achievements and innovations in EV charging infrastructure will be celebrated at the third annual CiTTi Awards, which will be held on 26 November 2024 at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
