Hull broadband provider Kcom has unveiled a fleet of EVs to help achieve Hull City Council’s carbon neutral aim.
The five EVs are the first of Kcom’s new eco-friendly fleet as it moves toward becoming a zero-carbon company. This follows Hull City Council declaring a climate emergency in March 2019 and news that the government will announce this autumn plans to bring forward its ban on new fossil fuel vehicle sales to 2030.
Tim Shaw, managing director of Kcom, said: “It’s time we all did our bit and stepped up to do whatever we can to help combat the climate emergency the world is facing. At Kcom we have been looking into the changes we can make, both big and small, that will have a real impact.”
The fleet will include three new Nissan Leaf N-Connecta cars and two Renault Kangoo vans. The cars, which can travel 168 miles on a single charge, are for staff travelling between the company’s two main Hull offices. Engineers will drive the vans across East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire while working on the full fibre network expansion.
Kcom has also installed charging points at both its sites.
