Leeds is the most prepared region for the electric vehicle (EV) transition, according to new data from Norwegian EV charging solution provider Easee.
Analysis of Easee’s data suggests that Leeds has the most home chargers (718) followed by Buckinghamshire (541), Birmingham (519), Cheshire East (500) and Barnet (499).
The high prevalence of chargers suggests that consumers in this region have to-date been the most prepared and able to make the transition to hybrid or fully electric vehicles.
The data also broke down some of the UK’s charging habits including:
- The total number of hours spent charging has increased by over 139% from 1.1m hours in July 2022 to approximately 2.8m hours in July 2024
- On average, hours spent for each charge session at home has increased from 3.2 hours in 2022, to 3.6 hours in 2024
- Total energy discharged increased by 156%, up from 2.2m MWh in July 2022 to ~6GWh in July 2024, the equivalent energy needed to power approximately 180, 000 EVs compared to just 2,000 EVs in 2022
Easee also revealed which regions are currently the least prepared.
The lowest density of home chargers was found in the Scottish Highland region of Lochaber, with eight home chargers.
However, as all chargers used in the data link to Easee, third-party suppliers could bolster some regions numbers.
Easee UK country director Adam Rodgers: “Regions lacking in home charging stations could indicate where the biggest barriers are, such as less off-road parking and more flat complexes, where residents have less autonomy to install home charging.
“As the industry continues to drive cost parity on new EVs and second hand EVs become more available, we would also expect to see an increase in home chargers, especially in regions where cost is a barrier to switching.”
Achievements and innovations in EV charging infrastructure will be celebrated at the third annual CiTTi Awards, which will be held on 26 November 2024 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
