NatPower UK, part of global energy transition developer NatPower Group, has announced a £10bn investment to deliver the UK’s largest portfolio of battery storage, totalling more than 60GWh.
According to NatPower UK, 60GWh battery storage could provide 15-20% of the energy storage needed in the country by 2040.
Stefano Sommadossi, CEO at NatPower UK, said: “The UK has the unique chance to transform itself into an energy transition powerhouse, generating tens of thousands of highly qualified jobs, with the City of London becoming a central player in managing the US$5 trillion of investment needed every year until 2030 globally, to make the energy transition a reality.”

The company has a large-scale battery storage roll out planned nationwide, with the first three so-called ‘GigaParks’ going for planning permission in 2024 and 10 more in 2025.
Should be planning permission be obtained, two GigaParks would be located in the north of England, with a further site in the west of the country planned later this year.
The facilities would be built on industrial land through leasing deals with farmers.

Some £600m is earmarked for the development of substations in the initial phase, to help overcome grid bottlenecks and connection delays.
This will be supported by large-scale solar and wind projects to be announced later.
