Discount supermarket Netto and energy company Vattenfall have announced a collaboration to set up fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Netto’s German store network.
Netto and Vattenfall’s partnership will involve the establishment of about 470 fossil-free EV charging stations throughout Germany. One of the long-term goals is the installation of 940 charging points across more than 270 Netto stores.
Vattenfall will be given full management responsibility for the chargepoints and any associated risks, while Netto will provide the customer parking spaces in front of its stores.
The project will become a part of Vattenfall’s InCharge network, a strategic initiative designed to support the transport sector’s switch to sustainable modes.
According to the pair, the charging stations will be open to not only Netto customers, but also other EV drivers. The partners also plan to include Netto’s rented stores in the future network.
“From our point of view, the offer of fast charging stations is an important element to increase the attractiveness of our stores,” said Ingo Panknin, CEO of Netto Germany.
“In addition, we are achieving another important milestone in our sustainable corporate policy.
“Together with Vattenfall, we set an example in the expansion of the infrastructure for e-mobility with almost 1,000 new charging points.”
Vattenfall claims that it will supply Netto charging stations with electricity from renewable sources only.
