Nottinghamshire County Council has opened a public consultation on its new electric vehicle (EV) charging framework.
With five key objectives, the framework sets out how Nottinghamshire County Council aims to work with residents, businesses and communities to establish a public chargepoint network.
A key aim of the framework is to ensure that EV chargepoints are made available across the county, including in urban centres, rural areas, on the highway and in public spaces.
As part of the framework, the county council wants to increase awareness of available chargepoints, seek more funding for and increase installations of chargepoints across the local network as well as ensuring the sustainability of chargepoints.
The county council is currently bidding for final approval for £5.5m from the UK government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund, to increase the number of EV charge points in Nottinghamshire.
Councillor Neil Clarke, cabinet member for transport and environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Encouraging the uptake of green transport solutions is pivotal in reducing domestic greenhouse gas emissions and addressing the impact of pollution on public health.
“We know that people having access to EV charging infrastructure is the key to motivating people to transition to lower emission vehicles and our framework sets out how we plan to support the growth of this infrastructure.
“This framework is evidence of our ongoing commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
“Our goal is to develop a county where EVs are widely used and we’re really keen to hear the views of Nottinghamshire residents on the ambitions included within the framework.”
Nottinghamshire residents can have their say online through the county council’s consultation system.
Achievements and innovations in EV charging will be celebrated at the third annual CiTTi Awards, which will be held on 26 November 2024 at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
