Royal Mail has announced the launch of its first delivery office in Wales to feature an all-electric fleet of collection and delivery vehicles.
Newport Delivery Office joins the G51 delivery office in Glasgow and Bristol’s east central delivery office which have both converted its last-mile fleets to EVs.
Some 43 fully electric vans have replaced the existing petrol and diesel vehicles at the Newport Delivery Office, located on Factory Way, part of a roll-out of 3,000 electric vans this year.
Additionally, 11 double electric charging posts have also been installed on the site as part of the transformation.
Following a visit to see the new fleet in action, First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, said: “The switch to electric vehicles at the Newport West Delivery Office will help us to work towards our ambition for a Net Zero Wales by 2050. Royal Mail is making changes that will lead to better air quality in urban areas as well as reduced greenhouse gases.”
