British broadcaster and telecommunications company Sky has added Renault electric vans to its vehicle fleet to help meet its 2030 net zero carbon goal.
With around 34% of the company’s carbon emissions originating in its supply chain, Sky said it hoped that the EV roll-out of would make a sizeable contribution to achieving its net zero ambition.
Sky said it chose the Renault Kangoo ZE due to the vehicle’s 143-mile range, size and positive driver feedback from earlier trials.
Furthermore, the vans’ zero tailpipe emissions, automatic transmission and instant torque mean the vehicles are suitable for use in low-emission zones and heavy congestion.
The EVs will replace Sky’s diesel vans, which currently make up more than 4,000 vehicles in its fleet.
Sky has taken delivery of 11 Kangoo ZEs for use at its West London UK headquarters, as well as at its Chilworth technology centre within the University of Southampton Science Park.
Several more will be deployed at Sky’s Scotland sites in Dunfermline, Livingstone and Uddingston.
All will be used by Sky’s facilities teams for an array of duties spanning cleaning to decorating and catering to mail distribution.
Oliver Wanklyn, senior fleet operations manager, supply chain operations at Sky, said: “These Renault Kangoo ZE vans take us another step closer towards our commitment to be net zero carbon by 2030.
“We’re very excited to introduce them and see them out on the road.”
Additionally, Sky said it is progressing the installation of increased EV charging points throughout its locations, with 95 chargers at its Osterley facility.
The all-electric Kangoo ZEs will be charged using renewable energy sources at all of Sky’s on-site charging points.
In January, Sky signed up to the EV100 initiative and committed to switch its more than 5,000 vehicles to a zero-emission fleet by 2030.
