Slough Borough Council has secured £2.233m from the UK government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Capital Fund to significantly expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
The funding will be used to install at least 1,600 on-street, kerbside charging points across the borough by 2040, with a particular focus on residential areas that lack off-street parking.
The investment aims to make EV adoption more accessible and appealing for local residents while unlocking additional private-sector investment.
Councillor Gurcharan Manku, lead member for environmental services and open spaces at Slough Borough Council, described the funding as “fantastic” and a reflection of the council’s ongoing commitment to emissions reduction and sustainable mobility.
“It will make a real difference to the infrastructure we have in Slough,” said Manku. “Having plenty of easy to access charging points will make owning an EV more appealing.”
The procurement process is currently under way, with a contract expected to be awarded this summer. Subject to timelines, the first charging points could be installed before the end of the year.
Slough currently offers more than 40 public chargepoint bays at council-managed sites, including car parks, libraries and leisure centres.
Residents are also encouraged to suggest new EV chargepoint locations via the council’s ongoing survey.
Achievements and innovations in EV charging infrastructure will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit www.cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
