Sony is set to enter the EV market with the launch of a new mobility company, as it revealed a prototype of its electric SUV during CES 2022 in Las Vegas.
During Sony’s presentation, which included a demonstration of the Vision-S 02, chairman Kenichiro Yoshida explained that the technology company is exploring a commercial launch of Sony’s EVs.
Sony Mobility Inc is expected to be launched in the spring, with Yoshida adding the new company aims to discover how a “creative entertainment company” can “redefine mobility.”
Furthermore, the Vision-S 02 prototype showcased the same EV cloud platform as the saloon version announced in 2020.
Both vehicles include a host of sensors, installed 360-degrees around the vehicles. This includes high-sensitivity, high-resolution, wide dynamic range CMOS image sensors and lidar sensors that are designed to accurately sense three-dimensional space.
Sony aims to provide greater safety and comfort through its sensor and communication technologies. The tech company is currently conducting functional verification tests in Europe, as it works towards the release of Level 2+ advanced driver assistance systems on public roads.
