UK energy company SSE Enterprise has signed a three-year framework agreement with Alfen to provide it with smart EV charge points that can be deployed for SSE Enterprise customers.
SSE’s Distributed Energy business is rolling out its EV proposition commercially, based on its own real-world experience of transitioning to EVs. Alfen has supplied the company with its smart Eve Double charging stations for installations at both SSE’s main employee bases in Perth and Reading.
Investment in EV infrastructure is being made by SSE to help get its 12,000 staff on the road to net zero carbon emissions as well as to convert its 3,500-strong fleet to EVs.
Featuring a rugged enclosure and robust components designed for high usage and regular user changeovers, Alfen’s Eve Double EV charging station is suited for use with company fleets. It houses two sockets, has a full colour display, and its integrated RFID reader enables user access control and monitoring. In addition, its inbuilt MID-metre facilitates financial settlement.
To manage the load on the grid, Alfen’s Smart Charging Network and Active Load Balancing can be integrated. This functionality allows customers to connect up to 100 charge points on a single site and load balance across all vehicles charging, thereby ensuring charging speeds are maximised within the available local grid capacity, and avoiding potentially expensive grid upgrade costs.
Kevin Welstead, EV director, SSE Enterprise, said: “We are very proud to deliver further EV infrastructure thagt will significantly increase SSE’s capability to charge fleets and private vehicles across our estate.
“We want to demonstrate to other companies we can be their partner of choice when it comes to decarbonising their fleet or company cars and get SSE well on the road to net zero. Alfen is a high-quality manufacturer and a trusted partner and they form a key component to our offering to both our own fleet and those of our customers.”
