A conversion technology that retrofits petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles with electric engines has been developed by Wirral-based Symphony EV-ZE.
According to the British company, its Retro Conversion Kit can be applied to almost any vehicle type, including trucks, vans, utility vehicles, and even boats.
Currently, Symphony EV-ZE is focusing on the conversion of conventionally-powered black cabs from fossil-fuels to zero-emission electric, due to the “immediate potential” such vehicles offer “to reduce emissions within city centres”.
With Symphony’s EV-ZE’s Rapid Superfast charging technology, a converted vehicle can reportedly achieve 100 miles (161km) in less than 30 minutes of charging, costing £2 per 100 miles, or £200 per 10,000 miles, with no road tax or congestion charge.
John Robinson, Symphony EV-ZE managing director, said: “Our overall ambition is to make Liverpool and the City Region one of the lowest carbon cities in Europe outside of London, and this technology is another step to deliver this across the transport industry.”
