Volkswagen Group UK has partnered with energy provider OVO to offer customers preferential rates and bonuses, in a move that seeks to increase electric vehicle (EV) uptake among UK consumers.
Those purchasing vehicles from any Volkswagen Group brand – Audi, CUPRA, SEAT, Škoda, Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles – can now utilise OVO’s ‘Charge Anytime’ add-on.
Under the partnership with OVO, Volkswagen Group customers can charge for 7p/kWh at home, at any time of the day or night.
The ‘Charge Anytime’ add-on utilises OVO’s intelligent grid technology and is powered by Kaluza software. It has reportedly enabled customers to save more £10m since its launch in 2022.
The add-on works by automatically enabling charging when carbon emissions and prices are lower.
Chief commercial officer at OVO, Mat Moakes, said: ‘’OVO is committed to helping customers transition to an electric vehicle.
“Together with Volkswagen Group we are rewarding customers for making the switch to an EV.
“We look forward to extending our market leading ‘Charge Anytime’ to more customers than ever before and helping consumers on their EV journey, all while cutting costs and carbon.”
Earlier this year, Volkswagen Group announced it had renewed its home charging and wallbox partnership with Ohme.
The addition of OVO means Volkswagen Group and its retailers can also support customers with an energy recommendation.
Reportedly responsible for one in every five EV passenger cars sold in 2023, Volkswagen said it hopes the partnership with OVO will further encourage the UK EV market to further develop.
EV lead for Volkswagen Group UK, Kate Jeffreys, said: “Following a thorough tender process, we were delighted to join forces with OVO to offer Volkswagen Group customers a solution for clean, affordable and simple energy.
“On top of our Ohme partnership for home charging, we believe the agreement with OVO breaks down more barriers for customers who are looking to make the switch to an electric vehicle.
“Buying, owning and driving an electric vehicle is simple and easy – and fun! We hope this latest addition to our holistic offering will be another attractive piece of the jigsaw for consumers.”
Achievements and innovations in EV charging infrastructure will be celebrated at the third annual CiTTi Awards, which will be held on 26 November 2024 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
