Blaenau Gwent Council in Wales has announced that it is the first Welsh council trialling Kerbo Charge’s through-pavement electric vehicle (EV) charging channels.
The council hopes that the trial will help residents with on-street parking to safely charge EVs from home, enabling them to make the transition from diesel/petrol cars to electric vehicles.
Accounting for approximately 40% of Blaenau Gwent households, residents without driveways will now be able to charge their vehicles from their home supply, saving residents hundreds of pounds annually compared to public charging.

When a resident wants to charge their car, they simply insert their charging cable into the channel, and the specially designed lid closes behind it like a zip, eliminating the need to stretch cables across footpaths.
The council aims to encourage residents to switch to EVs amid increasing UK government pressure to reduce Britain’s carbon footprint and improve its air pollution rates in line with its ZEV mandate.
CEO and co-founder of Kerbo Charge, Michael Goulden, said: “Congratulations to Blaenau Gwent on moving quickly to make home charging available to residents with street parking – a high percentage of Welsh homes are terraced or semi-detached so offering this technology will make a real difference to many Welsh families.”
Achievements and innovations in EV charging infrastructure will be celebrated at the third annual CiTTi Awards, which will be held on 26 November 2024 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
