Enterprise Car Club is supporting City of Edinburgh Council’s push toward sustainable transportation by expanding the local fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) within the Scottish city.
The initiative aims to facilitate the transition to zero-emission vehicles for residents, local businesses, and visitors, making it more convenient to experience and adopt electric driving.
The project commenced with the introduction of 12 EVs, strategically placed to align with the council’s sustainable transport strategy.
Councillor Scott Arthur, transport and environment convener, City of Edinburgh Council, said: “Our expanded network of chargers and the growing electric car club fleet are crucial steps towards a cleaner, more sustainable transport system in Edinburgh.
“We’re providing easy access to affordable electric vehicles, which is a great option for anyone who wants to play their part in our journey to Net Zero.”
Throughout the summer, Enterprise Car Club plans to progressively increase the number of EVs across various locations in Edinburgh as the demand among car club members rises.
Currently, EVs are stationed at key locations strategically positioned within easy reach of residential, commercial, and business districts.
To further ease the transition to electric driving and familiarise users with the operation and charging of EVs, Enterprise will host drop-in sessions at its rental branches.
The initiative has gained additional relevance following the enforcement of Edinburgh’s Low Emission Zone (LEZ) on June 01, offering an alternative for drivers whose vehicles do not meet the new emission standards.
Notably, one in five car club trips in Edinburgh is for business purposes, while the remainder are for personal use.
Additionally, 10% of users come from outside the city, often utilising car club vehicles during their visits and frequently picking up vehicles at main public transport hubs.
Achievements and innovations in EV charging infrastructure will be celebrated at the third annual CiTTi Awards, which will be held on 26 November 2024 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
