Amazon has dispatched some 20 electric delivery vans from its Exeter station in support of its wider climate pledge.
The online retailer’s independent delivery service partners will have access to the zero-emission Mercedes-Benz vans, helping to save tens of thousands of metric tons of carbon.
The initiative is part of Amazon’s ambition to add more than 1,800 EVs to its European delivery fleet this year. The programme will see more than 500 electric vans added to its UK operations.
Kerry-Anne Lawlor, UK country director for Amazon Logistics, said: “Amazon has added electric delivery vehicles from Mercedes-Benz as part of our journey to build the most sustainable transportation fleet in the world and have been moving fast to get these vans on the road this year.”
Additionally, the e-commerce company said it is investing in renewable energy as a step toward addressing the global carbon footprint and has pledged to run on 100% renewable energy by 2025.
Last year it announced investment in a total of 35 renewable energy projects. This included the addition of 26 utility-scale wind and solar energy programmes, totalling 3.4GW of electricity production capacity.
