CiTTi Live exhibitor Flowbird Smart City UK has achieved carbon-neutral status (CNS), as part of its commitment to offer customers, including local authorities, environmentally-friendly operations and products.
In order to achieve CNS, Flowbird was audited by Carbon Footprint Limited, which comprised a review of the company’s vehicle and mileage use, and its plans to reduce its carbon footprint in its offices and via home working over a 12-month period.
For the assessment, Flowbird put a task force of key personnel in place to compile the data required from the various areas of the business.
The assessor stated that the content and level of detail provided made the assessment a smooth process, with the clearly defined sectors assisting with the calculations.
Carbon Footprint Limited’s environmental accolade recognises companies that have carbon management strategies in place to calculate and reduce their carbon footprints in business operations.
Flowbird has sponsored a number of projects in developing countries and funded the planting of 444 trees within various UK-based schools.
To further reduce its carbon footprint, the company has started to introduce electric vehicles into its fleet, and the company is currently working on the UK government’s PPN60/21 (Procurement Policy Note).
According to Flowbird, strong green credentials and carbon neutral status will become a necessity for local authority tenders – a key customer sector for the company.
Danny Hassett, managing director, Flowbird Smart City UK, said: “Our customers demand suppliers who are serious about reducing their carbon footprint.
“Flowbird Smart City UK has always recognised the impact of climate change, and for many years we have invested in developing high quality solar parking machines – 98% of machines we sell have solar.
“On top of this, we also have the technology for emission-based charging at our pay and display machines and a range of EV charge points.
“Carbon Neutral + status is a recognition of our longstanding commitment to responding to our own and our customers’ desires for greener operations and products.”
CNS lasts for one year and the company will then be re-audited.
